When I ask family, friends, and clients about their experiences with personal safety training, their responses range from “none at all” to something along the lines of “I took martial arts for a few years.” There is very little discussion about participating in a comprehensive training program that enhanced their personal safety, leaving many with misconceptions about what personal safety training really is. Their understanding gravitates to television, movies, and mixed martial arts competitions, where images of actors and athletes involved in action sequences light up the screen. With this in mind, they mistakenly believe that they are not capable of participating in personal safety training.

The reality is that personal safety training involves more than just the techniques of martial arts - it involves practical strategies and skills that will help develop awareness to avoid or manage threatening situations, promote sound decision-making, and if necessary, utilize basic techniques to facilitate a safe escape from a threatening situation. No matter what stage of life you are in, these are life skills that can benefit you at school, at work, in social settings, and even in the course of serving the community.

As a former defensive tactics instructor for a Federal law enforcement agency with over 20 years of training experience, including training officers, support staff, judges, and other members of the community of various age groups, I established Insight Personal Safety LLC as a way to meet this urgent need for effective and efficient personal safety training in these uncertain times. Whether you wish to obtain safety training for yourself, your family, or your business/organization, my goal is to customize the safety training to specifically suit your needs and concerns by working with you at your location.
